The Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) in the UK takes place every year on 27 January and commemorates lives lost in the Holocaust, other victims of Nazi persecution and the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

It is a time for communities to learn, remember and reflect.

As a local authority we are marking HMD 2020 by having commemoration books on display at our Contact Centres and these will be available for staff and visitors to sign and leave their thoughts.

We will also have small leaflets on display (Holocaust Memorial Day: Learning from genocide for a better future) which staff and visitors can take away for their further information. This upcoming anniversary on 27 January 2020 will mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi camp. It will also mark the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia so this serves as a timely opportunity to reflect, learn and commemorate.
