We are celebrating National Tree Week with a range of community events and activities across Bolsover District.
National Tree Week runs from Saturday 23 November to Sunday 1 December 2024 and aims to celebrate the importance of trees to the local environment as well as the positive impact they can have on climate change.
We are staging a range of tree planting events with local schools, businesses, and environmental groups, which include:
- Winners of our painting competition will visit Bannerbox to see their creations brought to life – Monday 25 November 2.30pm.
- Children from Brigg Primary School will plant fruit trees at South Street Recreation Ground, South Normanton on Thursday 28 November, 1pm
- Children from Tibshelf Town End Junior will plant trees in Tibshelf Park on Tuesday 26 November at 10:30am
- Tree planting at Fox Green Community Woodland with Bolsover Woodland Enterprise. Volunteers are invited to join us at Fox Green in Creswell to help plant young saplings and engage with nature. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and spades on Wednesday 27 November at 10:30am
- Fruit tree planting at Claylands Road Community Orchard in Whitwell with local volunteers on Friday 29 November at 10.30am.
- Tree planting at Whitwell Common off Worksop Road A619 on Friday 29 November at 1.30pm.
Anyone attending the events will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of trees, gain hands-on experience in planting, and contribute to growing urban woodlands.
In addition to these public events, we will also unveil the winners of our school painting competition and will be holding an exciting reveal for the winning contestants during the National Tree Week.
Cabinet Member for the Environment and Local Nature Recovery Champion, Councillor Anne Clarke, said: “I want to encourage our local residents to get involved and be part of National Tree Week, as it is the perfect time to help us make a lasting impact on our natural environment.
“From children who have won the painting competition and will be planting trees for their school to older people who can volunteer at the numerous planting events we have staged, the week promises to be a fun, but educational one.
“The more we involve our communities in supporting our urban and rural woodlands and helping us nurture nature, it means we can create a greener, healthier future for everyone.”
