Bolsover District Council has further shown commitment to helping the environment by appointing a new Bolsover Local Nature Recovery Champion to help achieve our four key environmental pledges.
Cabinet member for environment, Councillor Anne Clarke was appointed at a meeting of the Executive committee on 29 January 2024.
In February 2023 the council launched the Bolsover Nature Recovery Action Plan which produced the following pledges for action:
- Increase the financial support for local nature recovery by 50%
- Manage land in a way that enhances biodiversity
- Establish a Voluntary Sector Forum to bring together the district’s community groups that are active in local nature recovery and environmental matters
- Establish a land bank record and seek to expand this through Dragonfly Development Ltd exploring opportunities to acquire land to help connect and extend the local nature networks
The Bolsover Local Nature Recovery Champion (BLNRC) will work alongside the planning policy team as well as sitting on a newly formed LNR task and finish group.
Councillor Clarke said: “I am hoping that this new role will allow me to highlight the good practices already in the council and its further efforts to combat climate change.
“There are many great initiatives at Bolsover District Council which are ongoing, such as the tree planting programme and I hope to build on that, working with local groups, parish councils and businesses in the district to develop environmentally friendly practices.”
