Plaques to honour footballers and miners in Blackwell

A plan to honour two Blackwell Colliery football heroes and commemorate seven miners who were killed in the local colliery by an underground explosion in 1895 is gathering pace.

Football historian, Mark Metcalf has joined forces with the local council and community representatives, and he recently met with local school children to explain what was happening and how they could get involved.

Bolsover TV (opens in a new window) went along to the school to meet Mark and find out more.

The group want to get as much information as possible and want the local community to be involved. So, they are staging a public meeting at Blackwell Community Centre from 12noon until 3pm on Sunday 25 February to see if there are any descendants of the seven men who died in the colliery who would be willing to come forward and speak about them.

Please contact Mark Metcalf on 07392 852561 for further information or if you have any details that could assist him with his research.
