Our street cleansing service has been recognised as the ‘Most Improved Performer’ in the country for keeping the area clean and tidy.
The award was announced as part of the recent Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Performance Networks Awards held in December 2023.
The street cleansing team sweep and clean approximately 440 miles of roads every year on varying daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly and quarterly frequencies and empty nearly 700 litter and pet waste bins each week.
We also received awards in recognition for our grounds maintenance and waste collection services. The waste collection teams empty 2,733,500 household bins and grounds maintenance teams maintain 1.8million square metres of green space each year.
Cabinet Member for Streetscene, Councillor Anne Clarke said, “I am delighted that the hard work and efforts of our street cleansing, refuse collection and grounds maintenance teams have been recognised through these awards.
"It is another feather in our cap and is richly deserved by all the staff who work round the clock in all weathers either sweeping, litter picking, emptying bins, maintaining our green space and all the other activities they carry out to keep the area clean and tidy for us to enjoy.”
Each year APSE asks councils across the UK to submit information to assess value for money performance in different service award categories. Performance Networks then assess and audits overall performance of those local authorities before announcing the ‘Best’ and ‘Most Improved’ performers in the country.
