Dragonfly Development first birthday: A year of achievements

We are celebrating the first birthday of our company, Dragonfly Development Ltd.

Established in September 2022 after the collapse of our preferred contractor, Dragonfly Development Ltd has gone from strength-to-strength and has already completed two construction projects. Dragonfly Development staff stood outside a house celebrating their first birthday

Not only has the company been formed and a board established with sustainable working practices, but they have employed staff, re-engaged local contractors, and completed two major prominent build projects.

Nineteen new homes have been built at the Willows in Whaley Thorns as part of our Bolsover Homes scheme and a new £3million Heritage and Wellbeing Centre has been constructed and opened in Creswell for the Parish Council.

Council Leader and Chairman of the Dragonfly Development Ltd Board, Councillor Steve Fritchley said, “Despite the significant challenges we were left with when our previous contractor went into administration, we acted quickly and set up Dragonfly Development Ltd to ensure our building programme could continue, without delay.

“It is credit to the staff and contractors we employ that we have managed to complete these two major schemes and it just goes to show what can be achieved through strong leadership and good old fashioned hard work.”

The company is working on several other projects including building new council houses in Shirebrook and Whaley Thorns, is about to break ground on the new £9.4m Roseland Park & Crematorium in Shirebrook and has received planning approval to start work on a £9m housing development in Blackwell.

Grant Galloway, Chief Executive of Dragonfly Development Ltd said the first year has been a huge success but there is more to come.

“The staff have been brilliant and have worked very hard over the past twelve-months to get the company established and where it is today.

“But this is just the start. We have a pipeline of work for the next five-years but are always looking for new development opportunities that fit in with the Council’s ambitions and will benefit our local communities, along with working with other local authorities to deliver their build programmes in a secure and cost-effective way.”
