Young Voice
Our Youth Council (Young Voice) meets formally four to five times a year to discuss local issues, raise funds for local charities and contribute to projects impacting their local communities.
All secondary schools in the District (Tibshelf, Shirebrook, Bolsover, Frederick Gent, Heritage High and Stubbin Wood) elect six young people each to represent them as their Youth Councillors.
They produce the Young Voice Newspaper every year.
Youth Council Charity of the Year 2024-2025
Our Youth Council has chosen Junction Arts (opens in a new window) as its Charity of the Year 2024-2025 which means we'll be doing all sorts of activities to raise funds in support of their excellent work in delivering engaging arts experiences within disadvantaged areas across the District. Junction Arts work hard to improve wellbeing, build confidence and skills, address inequality and inspire positive change in their work. The Positive Activity Rewards Scheme
The Positive Activity Rewards Scheme was established to help Youth Councillors (36 students from the six secondary schools across the district) to reward the positive efforts of up to sixteen of their fellow students who've worked hard during the year and deserve a reward for meeting or exceeding a range of performance criteria. Examples of behaviours which can qualify students for a reward can include good attendance, outstanding achievements or those who've gone above and beyond in a specific field.
The Rewards Scheme involves one day at Pleasley Vale Outdoor Activity Centre and a day at an Extreme Wheels Sports Roadshow. These trips are funded by Bolsover District Council's Youth Council, otherwise known as the 'Young Voice'. Activities on the day can range from zorbing and KMX/BMX racing to canoeing or abseiling. Youth Councillors from each school will then be asked to write an article for the Youth Council's newsletter describing their school's experience of each Positive Activity Rewards day.
