Your garden

It is the tenant's responsibility to ensure their gardens are clean, tidy and free from waste. Our Rangers work to tackle untidy gardens in the first instance but this can be escalated into the relevant Tenancy Management Officer if things do not improve.

Tenants will be given a reasonable length of time to ensure the garden is clear of waste and maintained to an acceptable standard. A further inspection will take place after this time.

If the garden remains in poor condition we will issue a Community Protection Warning letter which could lead to a Community Protection Notice. Non-compliance with a Community Protection Notice carries criminal sanctions and may also result in a fixed penalty notice to the sum of £100. Alternatively, action may be taken against the tenancy as a breach of the following obligation.

You must make sure that your garden is:

  1. Tidy with any hard surfaces kept clean
  2. Free from vermin and pests
  3. Free from stored or accumulated rubbish, furniture, household appliances or scrap metal
  4. Free from dog faeces

Lawns must be cut and hedges trimmed to a manageable level. Shrubs must not be more than two metres high. If the garden is overgrown and there is no good reason why you are unable to clear it, we may clear it and charge you for the work.

If tenants require assistance in removing items we may be able to assist via our bulky waste collection scheme.
