Bolsover Homes scheme is gathering pace

Seven more new homes have been built as part of our Bolsover Homes scheme, bringing the total to 16 in the space of 11 months.

The new properties are on an old garage site on Doles Lane in Whitwell and form part of our long-term ambitions to build up to 400 new council properties in the next four years.

The six x 2 bedroom and one x 3 bedroom properties have been built in partnership with Robert Woodhead Ltd to meet local housing needs and provide energy efficient properties, built to the highest standards.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Sandra Peake said, “This is the final phase in the first cluster of council homes in Whitwell and we are delighted with them. They are lovely houses and will provide families in the area with a good, quality home for years to come.

“We have set ourselves ambitious targets to build new council properties for our residents. We have identified unused or under-utilised land and are making the most of it by turning it into beautiful new homes. But what we make sure happens is that the right property - be it family homes, flats or bungalows for the elderly - are built in the right place and meet a local need.”

The houses have been built to meet the Lifetime Homes Standard which ensure they can be adapted easily to fit the needs of those living there. Each property has off-road parking, gardens and environmentally friendly features such as bat boxes, bird houses and water butts.

Tom Woodhead, Business Services Director of Robert Woodhead Ltd said, “we have delivered over £4.5m of social value within the local community while we have been building this first cluster. From work experience opportunities, apprenticeships, and spending money with our local supply chain. It really has been a huge success thanks to our team and supply chain working together.”

Work continues on building 21 more new Council homes in Whitwell on Sandy Lane/Thorpe Avenue, before moving to other parts of Bolsover District.
