In October 2019 we commenced a period of Statutory and Public Consultation regarding the  need for a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in Shirebrook and Langwith Junction.

A PSPO is a provision, created by the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which is intended to deal with persistent and unreasonable conduct by individuals in a public place which is detrimental to the local community’s quality of life.

The aim is to stop individuals or groups committing anti-social behaviour in public spaces. They are designed to ensure the law-abiding majority can use and enjoy public spaces, safe from anti-social behaviour. Enforcement can be undertaken by council officers, police officers and PCSOs.

In 2015 we made a PSPO which was successful in tackling anti-social behaviour in Shirebrook. When this expired we worked with the Police and the Bolsover Community Safety Partnership to review the need of the order, taking into account the latest reports of anti-social behaviour witnessed and reported to the police. As such some amendments were proposed to the previous order, including the introduction of a direction to leave.

Following a period of statutory and public consultation we have now made a new order effective from 16 December 2019 which has introduced restrictions in the defined area.
