We aim to complete all missed black bins from last week by end of play on Wednesday 7 March 2018. Please leave your bin at the edge of your property for collection and no side waste will be taken. If your bin has not been collected by then please complete our missed bin form and we can investigate it.

We have received updated information from our burgundy bin contractors that they will aim to complete all missed burgundy bins from last week by end of play on Friday 9 March 2018. Please leave your bin at the edge of your property for collection. If your bin has not been collected by then please complete our missed bin form and we can investigate it.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Updated 14:52 (02/03/2018)

Our bin crews have been working hard over the past couple of days, despite treacherous weather and road conditions. They have collected as many bins as possible on their scheduled collections, where it has been safe to do so.

However, for some of the days we had to temporarily suspended our waste collection. This is not a decision that was made lightly but the working conditions deteriatored and the safety of the public and our workforce was our priority.

We understand that many of the main roads are clear but the majority of our work takes place on side streets which are unsafe for us to drive upon. Our collection vehicles weigh up to 32 tonnes and if this vehicle starts to skid on a crowded residential street lives would, undoubtedly, be put at risk.

Missed bins

If the forecast is correct and the thaw comes this weekend any missed black bins from 28 February – 2 March that have not already been collected by the end of today, then we would advise you to please leave it in an accessible place at the edge of your property from 6am on Monday (5 March) and we will collect it as soon as the road and weather conditions improve. All scheduled collections for w/c 5 March will take place as normal.

For any missed burgundy bins from 28 February – 2 March that have not already been collected by the end of today, please leave your bin in a safe position at the edge of your property and this will be collected as soon as possible.

Green bin collections are due to start again w/c 5 March 2018. To help us catch up with missed black bin collections we are diverting some of our crews from green bin collections. Figures from previous years have indicated that collection rates are low so if your green bin is not collected on your scheduled date please take this back to your property and present it on your next scheduled collection date, as our priority is to collect missed black bins.

All the above is of course weather dependent and we hope you appreciate and understand why some collections have been missed and we are working hard to collect any missed bins as soon as possible.

All council buildings, except South Normaton Contact Centre are open as normal. Our Go! Active leisure facility is also open as normal. Bin collections are taking place where it is safe to do so and we advise you to put your bins out as normal if you are scheduled for a collection. We are experiencing a high volume of calls at present so you may get an engaged tone when you phone. Please hang up and try again later. If your query is not urgent please do not try and telephone us and get your answer via the website or our social media platforms.

Updated 14:46 (01/03/2018)

We will be closing all council buildings at 3.30pm today to allow our staff adequate time to make a safe journey home before it gets dark. The latest weather and traffic information can be viewed via Derbyshire County Council website.

The forecast for tomorrow at present is currently a low probability for further significant snow, but the issue we have is the cold weather and a possibility of ice and strong cold winds. With this in mind, we are aiming to be open as normal tomorrow and we will assess each service area in the morning and decide whether normal service can be resumed or we continue with our Business Continuity arrangements.

For emergency housing repairs please telephone 01246 242295. For boiler repairs please see this guidance.

Updated 09:29 (01/03/2018)

Our Go! Active facility is now closed to allow staff the chance to drive home safely. All classes and swimming lessons have been cancelled for today. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Our Contact Centres at Bolsover, Clowne and Shirebrook are currently open but we are operating on a skeleton staff basis, so we advise people unless they have an emergency not to come to the buildings or telephone us.

All bin collections (black and burgundy) have been cancelled and we are working on plans on how we will pick up those bins we have missed due to the weather.

Updated 08:45 (01/03/2018)

We have had over 200+ call outs regarding heating systems not working with the majority due to freezing condensates.

The majority of combination boilers are fitted with a buoy system which allows residents to bypass the frozen condensate until it unfreezes. However in most cases residents seem to have forgotten they have them or how to operate them.

If you contacts us regarding their heating/hot water not working please refer to your Repairs Handbook (that all tenants should have) as there is a script within the keyfax repairs diagnostic system that explains this in more detail.

Updated 07:37 (01/03/2018)

Bin collections will not take place today due to the ongoing severe weather conditions and the forecast for more snow this morning. We will try and pick up any missed bins as soon as we are able and it is safe to do so. Our Go! Active leisure facility is open as normal.

For emergency housing repairs please telephone 01246 242295.

For gritting and snow clearance please vsit Derbyshire County Council website.

Updated 20:55 (28/02/2018)

Active leisure facilty directly on 01246 242 365 to see if they are open before travelling. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Due to the adverse weather and driving conditions and more snow forecast for this afternoon we've taken the decision to close all council buildings and leisure facilities.

We have suspended all bin (black and burgundy) collections due to the adverse weather conditions and the forecast of more snow for the rest of the afternoon. We plan to operate a normal service tomorrow where possible and will endeavour to complete all missed bin collections by the end of the week. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but the safety of our crews is a priority to us.

For emergency housing repairs please telephone 01246 242295.

For gritting and snow clearance please vsit Derbyshire County Council website.
